SALT

Photobucket

Although being home for the Holidays is great, I must say, the weather has been less than agreeable. I went for a nice long ride the other day and when I returned I was literally covered from head to toe in a mixture of melted snow, dirt and a TON of road salt. Snow is great and all but sometimes enough is enough.

Smashing

Photobucket
Copped from Cycleangelo

When I have dreams about riding my bike this is what they look like, smashing through the city skitching on fenders and weaving through traffic. Another awesome photo by Cycleangelo, this dude is on fire.

Awesome picture of Futura on his bike taken by Ricky Powell. I'm digging the 7-eleven cycling cap and gnarly glasses, those Keith Harring city cycles shorts are pretty rad too.

If I Had This Kind of Dough...

Photobucket

Although I love riding track bikes, fixed gears, "fixies", whatever you want to call them, I feel as though some people get a bit carried away. This Affinity Lo Pro is one of these instances. Don't get me wrong I think this bike looks awesome and the amount of money put into it is mind blowing; I just don't see the practicality. What is the point of having a $1500 zipp disc, $800 trispoke, GIANT Zen chainring and a slew of other track bike goodies on a bike that will obviously never see the track. Even small climbs would be a challenge on this beast and if there is a cross wind, forget it. With the time and money spent on this bike this guy could have a nice fixed gear AND a sweet road bike. If only I had his resources.

Going Clipless

Photobucket

Santa brought me some Shimano SH-R086L's to go along with my newly acquired Look Keo Carbon pedals. Although the snow is coming down pretty hard outside I went for a quick jaunt around the neighborhood before it got too bad and i must say, they are AWESOME. I'm so glad I finally made the switch, now I just need some gears.

Let it Snow...Bikes!

Photobucket

Interesting combination of Cinelli frames for the holiday! I don't think I would be too upset if it snowed Cinelli's for a little while. Maybe one of these would fall into my front yard!

Anyway, Happy Holidays!

The Hunted

PKFG Zebra Hunting
from Eugene Kredentser on Vimeo.
spotted on Lockedcog

What a cool idea for a race! Everyone has to chase the guy with a zebra tail through the city and the object is to steal his tail first. I love the fact that everyone chasing the zebra had tiger or leopard print compression pants on. Looks like a blast for sure.

Frag Rose

Photobucket

A random stencil I drew and then proceeded to tediously cut out with an exact-o knife. I taped off a white T-shirt I had laying around and sprayed the stripes on as well as the stencil. It didn't come out quite as good as I would have liked but the idea behind it is really what I was going for. I'm not sure how to prevent bleeding, I'll have to experiment in the future.

I was browsing around Freshness this afternoon when I came upon the VANS Vault 2011 Spring Preview which, I might add, is awesome! I really liked Pendleton's contribution and the Brooks look as awesome as ever. Even Leader made an appearance at the preview.

Obey Sample Sale

Photobucket
spotted on flwrider

This is the coolest sale I have ever seen! As you may have noticed from my previous post Shepard Fairey is one of my favorite artists. If I were anywhere in the vicinity of Santa Ana California, I would be there in a second. Who wouldn't want one of OBEY art!?

"Here it is, the sale that you have all been waiting for, Obey Clothing Holiday Sample Sale 2010! Same rules as last year: Cash, Visa, Mastercard only. All Sales final. No returns or Exchanges. No Bags. No Backpacks. No Obey is to be worn."

EXIT Through The Gift Shop

If you haven't seen Exit Through the Gift Shop and have any interest in urban art...you should watch it. The film is amazing and documents the life of Thierry Guetta, a psychotic "film maker" who follows the likes of Space Invader, Shepard Fairey and BANKSY himself. After years of following urban artists with his video camera, and a little help from BANKSY, Thierry becomes Mr. Brainwash, an overnight art sensation. When I first saw the film I was blown away especially because the last time I was in NYC I visited a Mr. Brainwash pop-up show without even knowing who he was. CRAZY!

Good Thinking SE?

Photobucket
broken ripper from Fixed Shit Up

"Hey I have an idea, lets add more strangely angled pieces of metal until it doesn't break anymore!"

Photobucket
Spotted on Zlog

"Good idea."

Not only is this one of the ugliest frames I have ever seen but I can see almost no practical use for two crossing top tubes. If strength was the issue I think there are a number of other ways to go about improvement. I hope the "Quad Fixed Prototype" stays that way...as a prototype. I think the boys over at SE got a little too excited after Oakley agreed to do a collab.

Velodrome Construction

Photobucket
Spotted on Tracko

I was looking at this picture yesterday and when I saw it I instantly thought of the famous picture where a group of construction workers are eating lunch on an I-beam. Then after reading the caption, it said the same exact thing! It blew my mind. Either way I have a soft spot for black and white photographs and this is an awesome picture.

Let the Drummer Kick

Photobucket
Spotted on Fixed Gear Cape Town

I was looking around on the interwebs today and I came across this ridiculous picture. It appears that he rides his fixed gear bike to a specific location where he proceeds to turn his bike into a drum set. How do people come up with these things?!

For Most It's Only A Dream

PLAYGROUND from Bicycle Store on Vimeo.

I spotted this video on 14Bike Co.'s blog today and I was completely blown away. The camera work is awesome in a way that the whole thing is almost surreal. I love the fact that they all have to hoist their bikes up with ropes to get inside. I mean seriously who wouldn't want their own abandoned warehouse? Good work fellas over at the Bicycle Store. More from them here.

Asher Roth

Video shamelessly taken from here

Yesterday I was browsing around on Hypetrak and I noticed Asher Roth is riding a fixed gear in his new video for G.R.I.N.D. It seems the fixed gear wave is growing larger everyday!

I'm not sure what I think about the rear Aerospoke but whatever floats your boat I guess.

Crank-it With Some Class

Photobucket
Photobucket
Spotted on Freshness

To say the least, these new Era Wingtip California Vans are pretty rad. I love the fact that they have the wingtip but are still subtle. They aren't shiny black and white leather with crazy tassels, just VANS! These bad boys are also available in navy blue, white and black. They fit in clips and hey they're wing-tipped so why not wear them to work too? Just a thought.

This video is so ridiculous. I pretty much love everything Mash Productions puts out and this video is no exception. It perfectly conveys the excitement that had to have been buzzing through the air at this event! Wish I could have been there in Sin City.

A Little of Both Worlds

Road and Dirt from Colin Bugella on Vimeo.
Spotted on 14 Bike Co.

Although there isn't too much out of the ordinary in this video, I love that they incorporated a little bit of both worlds. Some gnarly hill bombing along with some freestyle dirt. Although I'm not much of a freestyler myself I love watching guys get real air on a fixed gear bike (It's happening more and more often). When the dude jumps over the person laying on the ground I was pretty stoked. Anyway just thought I would re-post because it's a good combination that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Money In The Bank

In recent days there have been a few sick neq products to hit the market. First on my list of things to buy are these sleek Lino flat bull horns straight from the land of the rising sun. Chari & Co. never ceases to amaze me with their ridiculous assortment of top of the line track components.

Gettin' Sketchy

Photobucket
Spotted on Zlog

This collaboration between Mamafaka x DNSNP x Volcom is unbelievable! The colors just blow my mind and I would probably kill a man to have this as a six foot tall poster hanging in my room.

A purple HED 3 on a Vigorelli would be pretty rad too.

Barry McGee is an unbelievable artist, I love his style and the faces he comes up with are awesome. The first time I heard of him was when the RVCA x Cinelli Super Corsa was released (Which is one of my favorite frames of all time, I might add). I think this bad boy would look nice on a Super Corsa; it even matches the headbadge...

If I ever get a tourer and have enough money left over for a brooks saddle, one of these bad boys won't be far behind. What a wonderful invention! I like it even better than the Surly Tugnut (bottle opening chain tensioner)

For me, this video made fixed gear freestyle at least ten times more impressive. There is finally some bmx flow starting to show up in fg riding. The 180 to 360 keo off the box is just so ridiculous, love the music too.

For The Love of Carbon

Photobucket
Spotted on Flwrider

This beautiful seat-stay/down-tube shot is of an all black BMC Impec. I definitely have a soft spot for raw carbon fiber. It all started with my first obsession, the japanese automobile. As for the Impec I could not imagine a more awesome machine. Although I am a huge proponent of all black frames, I definitely like this red and black one much better.

The Smell of Fresh Leather In The Morning

Photobucket
Spotted on Tracko

This is the most beautiful saddle I have ever laid eyes upon. The hand worked leather is so amazing and the skull in the middle is a nice touch. If you follow the link on tracko to high Snobiety you will see that the tongue of the Brooks x Vans shoes match the saddle (nice touch). Anyway, I would love to have this saddle but it is definitely going to cost more than I have to spend if it becomes available to the public.
